Development of hydropower generating system with an installed capacity of approximately 20 MW of power will enable residents from rural parts of Makueni, Kitui and Machakos be empowered in terms of economic development in a big way. Availability of power will enable the residents to engage in small-scale industrial enterprise and farming. In addition to a sustainable fuel source, hydropower production through this dam will produce a number of benefits, such as flood control, irrigation, and water supply. Hydropower fueled by water, is a clean fuel source, meaning it won’t pollute the air like power plants that burn fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas. It is a renewable power source, making it a more reliable and affordable source than fossil fuels that are rapidly being depleted.
