Thwake Multipurpose Water Development Program is a key game-changer touted to empower lives of thousands of residents in the Lower Eastern region on Makueni, Kitui and parts of Machakos counties. The Government of Kenya (GoK) through the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation and funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB) is implementing this program comprising a multi-purpose dam for water supply, irrigation and hydropower generation. It will also provide regulation of flows on Athi River downstream for flood and drought mitigation.
